Bishop and Rector’s Journal – April 22, 2022

Dear Family and Friends of St. Philip’s,
I cannot thank everyone enough for the Maundy Thursday, two Good Friday Services,
and the Easter Day Service. All were wonderful events that carried forth the meaning of each
special day. Whom should I thank? Here’s a list: The Altar Guild, the Tech Committee,
Christian Formation especially for the Children’s Stations of the Cross on Good Friday, the
LEMs and Acolytes, Cedric and the Choir, Joe with his trumpet playing, ushers, readers,
Welcoming Committee members, Alphonso in helping everywhere, Barbara in preparing the
bulletins, and so many people who stepped up to help when needed. Everything went
smoothly. There’s an old saying, “Christ is Risen, and the Clergy are Dead!” While I was tired by
Sunday afternoon, I still was most satisfied with all that had occurred.

The Vestry met tonight and is moving forward in dealing with the report of the Lenten
Committee. You should receive tomorrow the data of the small group summaries and a cover
letter from the Committee regarding next steps. The Vestry has approved the Lenten
Committee’s report and is acting in accordance with the Committee’s recommendations. A
major part of this is the hiring of an outside consultant. On Tuesday evening, April 26, at 7:45
pm, the Vestry will interview a consultant. If we approve we will shift from a Lenten Program to
an Easter program with a similar format. I would anticipate our meeting again from 7 to 8 pm
on Wednesdays by Zoom. It is possible we could start up as early as Wednesday, May 4. I
commend the Lenten Committee for all the hard work it did in making the program such a
success.

I will be in the office next week on Wednesday and Thursday, but in the first week of
May I will be at St. Philip’s on Tuesday, May 3, and Wednesday, May 4. My reason for this
change is that a representative from Church Insurance will be here on May 3 to review St. Philip’s
insurance policies and property needs. I wish you all God’s blessings in the Easter season and
remain,
Your brother in Christ,

Jay
